About Me

Vivek Trivedi

I work with complex IT systems - not just to keep them running, but to make them dependable.

Over the last years, my work has focused on building, securing, and operating infrastructure that businesses can trust: networks that stay stable, security layers that are meaningful (not cosmetic), and systems that are designed to survive real-world failure, not just ideal conditions.

My background spans on-premise infrastructure, cloud platforms, identity systems, security controls, backup and recovery, and day-to-day operations. I have worked deeply with Microsoft environments, virtualization platforms, and enterprise security tools - not as isolated technologies, but as parts of one interconnected system.

My work has primarily been across Indian enterprises and SMB environments, with exposure to both on-premise and cloud-first organizations. I have worked in hands-on engineering, architecture, and operational roles rather than purely advisory or managerial ones.

I am particularly interested in the points where systems fail: where backups exist but cannot be restored, where networks work until they are stressed, where security exists but does not reduce risk. That is where most real problems - and most meaningful improvements - actually live.

I can converse comfortably in English, Hindi, Gujarati, and Bengali, and I value clear, direct communication - especially when dealing with complex or high-impact systems.

My longer technical writing lives on thectrlstack.com, where I write about real-world networking, firewalls, system design, and operational reliability.

My work has spanned environments of different sizes and maturity levels - from growing organizations building their first structured IT foundation, to established setups dealing with scale, complexity, and risk. What remains consistent is the focus: systems that are stable, understandable, secure, and recoverable when things go wrong - reflected in the system outcomes I aim for and the areas I work within.

System Outcomes

Case Work

Situation: An organization had infrastructure that technically worked, but felt fragile - performance issues, rising operational costs, and no clear visibility into where problems actually originated.

Work: Re-structured core systems around clearer identity, communication, virtualization, and support processes so that the environment became simpler to operate, easier to reason about, and more predictable under load - directly supporting the system outcomes of stability, clarity, and resilience.

Backup, Monitoring, and Failure Readiness

Situation: Backup systems existed, but restore confidence was low and monitoring was reactive rather than informative.

Work: Introduced structured backup validation, monitoring, and security assessment so failures could be detected early, understood clearly, and recovered from reliably - instead of being discovered only during incidents.

Identity and Access as a Foundation

Situation: User access and permissions were fragmented, inconsistently applied, and difficult to audit or reason about.

Work: Designed and implemented centralized identity and access control so that permissions became intentional, traceable, and aligned with how people actually worked - not just how systems were configured.

Areas of Practice

These are the domains I work within - not as isolated technologies, but as parts of interconnected systems that must remain understandable, secure, and recoverable over time. You can see how these areas translate into real changes in the case work above.

Infrastructure & Compute

I design, build, and operate server and virtualization environments so that capacity, performance, and failure modes are visible and manageable. This includes work with physical and virtual platforms across vendors such as Dell, Lenovo, HP, and VMware.

Networks & Security Boundaries

I design and operate network and security layers so that connectivity remains reliable and risk remains bounded. This includes firewall architecture, segmentation, secure remote access, and email security - using platforms such as Sophos, SonicWall, Trend Micro, and related tools.

Identity, Access & Collaboration

I treat identity as the core security and usability layer of modern systems. This includes directory services, authentication, and collaboration platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Active Directory - designed so access is intentional, auditable, and aligned with how people actually work.

Backup, Recovery & Failure Readiness

I design backup and recovery systems with the assumption that failure will happen. This includes backup validation, restore testing, monitoring, and security - using tools such as Veeam, Acronis, Nagios, and Nessus - so recovery is reliable when it is needed.

End-User Systems & Operational Reality

I work with end-user devices and operational tooling not as peripherals, but as part of system health. This includes work with laptops, printers, storage, and support systems so day-to-day operations remain predictable and supportable.

Physical Security & Monitoring

I integrate surveillance and physical monitoring systems where they are genuinely useful, ensuring they are maintainable, secure, and aligned with operational needs - including work with platforms such as CP Plus and Hikvision.

Malware & Threat Protection

I design endpoint and email protection layers as part of a broader risk strategy, not as standalone checkboxes - including solutions such as Bitdefender, Trellix, Kaspersky, and Quickheal.

How I Work

I work best in environments where systems matter, where uptime, security, and clarity are not optional, and where problems are worth understanding properly before they are solved.
